
Cougars' Harkins Named Denny's WHL Player of the Week

CALGARY, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Prince George Cougars forward Jansen Harkins is the Denny's WHL Player of the Week for the week ending March 1 st, 2015.
Harkins collected seven points (1g-6a) in two games to help the Prince George Cougars collect a pair of road wins last week.
On Friday, February 27th against the Seattle Thunderbirds, Harkins registered a four point performance (1g- 3a) including the overtime winner in a 5-4 road victory. The following night, Harkins collected three assists against the Everett Silvertips to help the Cougars to a 5-1 victory while also claiming first star honours.
The 17-year-old North Vancouver, BC native has gathered 76 points (19g-57a) in 61 games played this season. The 6'1", 180 lb forward is in his second WHL campaign with Prince George where he has amassed 110 points (29g-81a) in 133 career WHL regular season contests. Harkins was ranked 18th amongst North American skaters in NHL Central Scouting's midterm rankings for the upcoming 2015 NHL Draft.
The WHL has also nominated Garret Hughson of the Spokane Chiefs for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week award. Hughson, a 1995-born netminder from Foremost, AB, registered a 0.67 goals against average and a .973 save percentage, including one shutout, while winning all three of his starts last week.
On Wednesday, February 25 th, Hughson stopped 23 shots to earn a 3-1 win over the Everett Silvertips. On Friday, February 27th, Hughson turned aside all 28 shots he faced against the Tri-City Americans to pick up his first shutout of the season and claim first star honours. The following night, Hughson turned aside 22 shots to lift the Chiefs to an 8-1 victory against the Americans while earning second star honours. Currently in his third campaign with Spokane, Hughson has posted a 37-33-4-2 record with three shutouts in 93 career WHL regular season appearances.
