Spokane Chiefs News Release
SPOKANE, Wash. - The Western Hockey League announced today that Spokane Chiefs goaltender Garret Hughson has been nominated for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week award as the league's most outstanding goalie for the week ending March 1, 2015.
Hughson, a 19-year-old from Foremost, Alberta, registered a 0.67 goals against average and .973 save percentage, including a shutout, in three wins last week.
Hughson made 22 saves on 23 shots faced on Wednesday, Feb. 23, in a 3-1 win over U.S. Division-leading Everett.
He then turned aside all 28 shots faced in a 4-0 shutout win on the road over the rival Tri-City Americans on Friday, Feb. 27. The shutout, Hughson's first of the season and third of his career, earned him First Star honors.
Hughson capped off the week with a one-goal, 22 save performance against the Americans in the second of back-to-back games, helping the Chiefs to an 8-1 win at Spokane Arena on Saturday, Feb. 28. He nearly earned his second straight shutout, but the Americans scored on a 5-on-3 power play opportunity to spoil the effort with just 15 seconds remaining in regulation. He earned the game's Second Star in his 19th win of the season.
Hughson is in his third season with the Spokane Chiefs after being added to the team's list in 2011. He has a career record of 37-33-4-2 in 93 appearances, which is currently 12th in Chiefs' franchise history in games played by a goaltender. He has a combined 2.98 GAA and .898 SV%.
The Chiefs host the Vancouver Giants at Spokane Arena on Tuesday, March 3 for the first of two matchups against the B.C. Division opponent and only at home. It will be the 8th of nine TicketsWest Player Magnet Giveaways.
Tickets for Tuesday night and all Chiefs home games - just six regular season games remain! - are available in-person at the Chiefs' Ticket Office, over the phone at (509) 535-PUCK or (800) 325-SEAT, and online at www.ticketswest.com.
