Hawks Happenings On The Ice:

After nine games and 17 days on the road, the Winterhawks are finally back in Portland. The team went 5-3-0-1 on the trip, and finished with three consecutive wins. With 24 points on the season the Hawks are tied for first place in the Western Conference.

They're back on the ice in Portland this weekend with a back-to-back set against the Spokane Chiefs. The teams meet Friday at 7 at the Rose Garden, and Saturday in a special 5 p.m. start, also at the Rose Garden.

After missing the first six games of the road trip with an injury, Sven Bartschi returned and posted seven points in the final three games. Bartschi now has 24 points this season in just 11 games. He's tied for 13th in league scoring, but no other player in the top-20 has played fewer than 15 games.

This weekend's games will be special for Winterhawks players, as their families will be here for the annual Parents' Weekend. Any media interested in interviewing the players' families should contact me to make arrangements.

The Winterhawks and corporate partner Intel are hosting a Soldier Care Package drive this weekend and are encouraging people to bring commonly requested items to both games, which Intel will then send to active military personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan.Soldier Care Package items can include toiletries, food and entertainment items.For a complete list of acceptable items visit http://www.give2thetroops.org/items.htm.

Hawks Happenings Off The Ice:

Winterhawks fans in Clark County will have a chance to meet Hawks players Wednesday afternoon from 4 - 6 p.m. at the Les Schwab located at 917 Northeast Minnehaha Street in Vancouver. The players will sign autographs and play street hockey in the parking lot.
