Portland Winterhawks News Release

Hawks Happenings On The Ice:

The Winterhawks have clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 2006, and fans can make sure they don't miss a second of the playoff action. Playoff ticket packages are on sale now, and can be purchased by calling the Winterhawks' ticket office at (503) 236-HAWK. Single game playoff ticket information will be announced at a later date.

The Winterhawks wrap up the regular season this week, and it's still up in the air where they will finish and who their first round opponent will be. The Winterhawks could finish either fourth in the Western Conference, where they'd have home ice advantage in the first round, or fifth. Their first round opponent will be one of these three teams: the Everett Silvertips, Spokane Chiefs or Tri-City Americans. The standings aren't likely to be finalized until the WHL's regular season wraps up Sunday night.

Prior to Friday's game against Spokane, the Winterhawks handed out their annual awards. Chris Francis took home both the MVP and Leading Scorer Award, while Nino Niederreiter captured Rookie of the Year and was the fans' choice for Most Popular Player. Stefan Schneider won the Robert R. Boss Memorial Best Defensive Player Award, the Bill Anderson Memorial Trophy for Sportsmanship & Ability and shared the Scholastic Player of the Year Award with Seth Swenson.

Saturday night against Tri-Cities Brad Ross tied his career-high with four points, scoring two goals and adding two assists. It was the second time this season Ross has registered four points in a game, and the eighth time this season a Hawks player has hit four points in a game: Chris Francis and Ryan Johansen have both done it twice, while Nino Niederreiter and Joe Morrow have each done it once.
