Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
ERIE, PA - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies scored three runs in the ninth, but Erie's quick start proved too much to overcome as the Ponies fell 9-6 to the SeaWolves on Friday night at UPMC Park. Erie has taken three of the first four games in the series.
Down 9-3 entering the ninth, Brett Baty singled and Ronny Mauricio doubled to set up cleanup hitter Carlos Cortes. Cortes blasted the first pitch from Kyle Zurak over the left field wall to cut the deficit in half to 9-6. Later in the frame, after Hayden Senger walked, Wyatt Young rocketed a line drive from Gerson Moreno right at first basemen Dane Myers, who stepped on the bag to double up Senger to end the game.
Erie (10-5, 49-35) scored six runs over the first two frames. In the first, Andrew Navigato's RBI double and Quincy Nieporte's RBI single off Justin Lasko (3-3) put Erie up 2-0. In the second, Navigato again hit an RBI double to make it 3-0, and Parker Meadows two-run homer highlighted a four-run frame that put the SeaWolves up 6-0 after two. Erie had 10 hits over the first two frames.
The SeaWolves would tack on runs in the third and fourth as Navigato would have three RBI's over the first three innings.
In the fourth, the Ponies got on the board on a Ronny Mauricio solo home run to left center, his 16th of the season and 54th RBI of the year. Binghamton (4-12, 32-53) tacked on two more in the sixth on an RBI double from Senger and RBI single from Young.
Erie starter Markus Solbach (3-4) earned the win allowing three hits and one run over five innings with three walks and nine strikeouts.
Jeremy Vasquez had his third straight multi-hit game and extended his hitting streak to seven games, going 2-5.
Postgame Notes: Cody Bohanek was 1-2 with two walks and has reached base six times over the last two games...Cortes HR was his sixth of the year...the two teams combined for 26 hits on the evening.
