
SeaWolves Jump Ahead Early, Down Ponies 9-6

Every starter reached base safely as the Erie SeaWolves beat the Binghamton Rumble Ponies 9-6 on Friday at UPMC Park.
Erie opened the scoring with back-to-back doubles from Daniel Cabrera and Andrew Navigato against Justin Lasko. Two batters later, Navigato stole third and Quincy Nieporte drove him in with an RBI single to give the SeaWolves a 2-0 lead.
Erie tacked on four more runs in the second. Cabrera reached on a one-out single. Navigato drove in Cabrera with his second RBI two-bagger. Meadows then lined a two-run homer onto Holland street. It was his seventh long ball of the season.
Nieporte followed suit with a single. Wenceel Perez hit a double and Nieporte tried to score but was thrown out on a 7-2-5 putout. Perez came around on an RBI infield single from Dane Myers to make it a 6-0 game.
Jon Rosoff reached on an error from Brett Baty with one out in the third. Cabrera walked against Willy Tavares and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Navigato cashed in on his third RBI of the night with a sac fly to put Erie ahead, 7-0.
Binghamton got on the board in the fourth. Ronny Mauricio lined a solo homer over the left field fence against Markus Solbach to cut the deficit to 7-1.
The SeaWolves responded in the home half of the frame. Nieporte reached on catcher's interference to begin the frame. Dane Myers was hit by a pitch, which advanced Nieporte to second. Gage Workman hit a frozen rope for an RBI double to bring home Nieporte and make it an 8-1 game.
The Rumble Ponies picked up two runs in the sixth. Chavez Fernander issued a walk before giving up an RBI double to Hayden Senger. Wyatt Young singled in Senger to cut the deficit to 8-3.
Navigato greeted Andrew Mitchell with a leadoff walk in the eighth. Navigato stole second and Perez drove him in with a double to put the SeaWolves on top, 9-3.
Binghamton made it a close game in the ninth. Brett Baty led off with a single and was moved to third from a Mauricio double. Carlos Cortes belted a three-run homer to make it a 9-6 game. Gerson Moreno shut down the Rumble Ponies for the last two outs in the ninth for his sixth save.
Solbach (3-4) earned the win. He tossed five strong innings, allowing one run on three hits, walking three, and matching a season-high with nine strikeouts.
Lasko (3-3) was tagged with the loss. He yielded six runs in 1.1 innings.
