Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (11-25) fell to the Akron RubberDucks (22-15) 4-2 on Friday night at Mirabito Stadium.

Akron's George Valera continued to perform at the plate with his third home run of the series, a three-run shot to right off Ponies starter Jose Butto (1-4), putting the 'Ducks ahead 3-0 in the third. It was Valera's eighth RBI over the last two games.

The Ponies clawed back in the sixth with a single from Jake Mangum leading to Ronny Mauricio knocking in Mangum with a single to cut the lead to 3-1. Then Brett Baty scored on a balk to make it a one-run game. Mauricio now has 19 RBI on the season.

The sixth ended with Hayden Senger driving the ball to left centerfield with two runners on, but Will Brennan made a sliding catch in the gap to rob Senger of a potential extra base hit.

In the seventh, Matt Winaker scaled the right field wall and took away a solo home run from Brayan Rocchio, keeping the score at 3-2.

Two eighth inning doubles from José Tena and Marcos González gave Akron a 4-2 lead and Nic Enright earned the save registering the final six outs of the contest.

Akron starter Joey Cantillo pitched four scoreless innings giving up one hit while walking none and striking out eight as Jared Janczak got the win in relief.

Nate Fisher pitched 3.2 innings of scoreless relief walking none and striking out five.

The Ponies will continue their series against Akron Saturday night at 6:35 PM. Pregame coverage will start at 6:20 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF & 92.1 FM.
