Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
Harrisburg, PA - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (19-10) with two in the 11th inning pulled out a 5-3 win over the Harrisburg Senators (23-9) to complete the sweep at FNB Field Thursday evening. With the bases loaded and one out in the 11th, Andres Gimenez was hit by a pitch to force home Mike Paez from third. The next batter Arismendy Alcantara came through with an RBI groundout to short. Alcantara also hit his first homer of the season with a solo shot in the eighth that at the time gave Binghamton a 2-1 lead.
Coming off Harol Gonzalez and Ryder Ryan's combined no-hitter Wednesday night, the Ponies strong starting pitching continued Thursday. Lefty David Peterson allowed one run and 3 hits over five, with three walks and three strikeouts. It's the second straight outing in which Peterson has gotten a no-decision and the Ponies have gone on to win in extra innings. Harrisburg lefty Ben Braymer was in a pitcher's duel with Peterson, as he allowed only four hits and one run over 7. Kevin Kaczmarksi's RBI single in the seventh was the only run Braymer allowed, which tied the game at one. Kaczmarski finished two for three with an RBI and a run scored.
The Rumble Ponies finished their nine-game road trip through Harrisburg and Portland at 7-2 and are winners of nine of their last 11. The Ponies won both series, including winning all three against a Senators club who came in with the best record in the Eastern League, holding them to four runs over the three-game set.
The Ponies begin a six-game homestand Friday night against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, with first pitch at 7:05 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and on the Binghamton Rumble Ponies channel on TuneIn. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show begins at 6:50.
POSTGAME NOTES: With Trenton off, Binghamton moves into a tie with the Thunder for first place in the Eastern Division...Patrick Mazeika extended his hitting streak to ten games...Riley Gilliam pitched two scoreless frames in relief, allowing only one inherited runner to score, walking one and striking out four...Matt Blackham gets his first win of the year in relief...David Roseboom gets the save in his second appearance of the season.
