Pomp Meet Circumstance, Saints First Season in Triple-A Begins with April 6 Home Opener

February 18, 2021 - International League (IL)
St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN - Before you go see the Minnesota Twins open their 2021 season at Target Field on April 8, you can get your first look at the Twins of tomorrow at CHS Field a couple of days before that. The St. Paul Saints begin their first season as a Triple-A club opening at home on Tuesday, April 6 against the Columbus Clippers (Cleveland Indians).

The Saints begin the season with a six-game homestand against the Clippers before embarking on their first roadtrip, a 12-game jaunt that takes them to their two closest rivals, the Omaha Storm Chasers (Royals) and Iowa Cubs (Chicago Cubs).

The Saints will host three, 12-game homestands with the first taking place from May 11-23 with a six-game series against the I-Cubs and Indianapolis Indians (Pittsburgh Pirates). The Saints also have 12-game homestands from June 8-20, and July 27-August 8.

The 142-game schedule begins on April 6, goes until Sunday, September 19, and will consist of 70 home games and 72 road games. Game times, along with information on single game and group tickets, will be announced at a later date.

The Saints, who are a part of the Midwest Division, will play the following teams this season: Columbus Clippers (Indians), Indianapolis Indians (Pirates), Iowa Cubs (Cubs), Louisville Bats (Reds), Omaha Storm Chasers (Royals), and Toledo Mud Hens (Tigers). To alleviate travel and minimize COVID-19 risks for the 2021 season, the three western most teams in the division, the Saints, I-Cubs and Storm Chasers, will only play games within the Midwest Division.

Each series is six games in length, beginning on Tuesday and going through Sunday with every Monday being league-wide off-days. The league will take a three-day hiatus during the Major League All-Star break, from July 12-14, and play a four-game series Thursday, July 15-Sunday, July 18. The six-game series, and universal Monday off-day, cuts down on travel for players and keeps them fresher throughout the season.

Overall, the Saints have nine homestands, with three, 12-game homestands, five, six-game homestands, and a four-game homestand. While the Saints play 70 home games this season, they will play 72 next season. Triple-A teams will alternate between 70 and 72 home games from season-to-season.

The Saints will play three, 12-game roadtrips and six, six-game roadtrips, including closing the season with a six-game series against the Indians at Victory Field from September 14-19.

In all, 36 of the 72 Saints home games will take place Friday-Sunday and 45 of 72 Thursday-Sunday. There are a total of 10 home games in April, 14 in May, 14 in June, 13 in July, 13 in August, and six in September.

Season tickets, including full, half and 12-game mini plans, are currently available. For more information contact the Saints ticket office at 651-644-6659 or visit saintsbaseball.com.
