Tulsa Oilers News Release
TULSA, OK - Four goals from captain Adam Pleskach led the way for the Tulsa Oilers (13-10-6), but the Oilers fell 6-5 Saturday to the Kansas City Mavericks (16-9-2) on Throwback Night at the BOK Center.
Darian Dziurzynski put the Mavericks on the board first when he poke-checked the puck from an Oilers defenseman and fired a shot between the legs of Evan Fitzpatrick at 7:22 of the opening frame. Tulsa answered on a 5-on-3 power play, when Pleskach fired a one-timer into the net from low in the left circle. The goal put Pleskach into a tie for third in Tulsa history with his 145th goal in an Oilers uniform. The score was tied 1-1 after one.
Pleskach added a second power play tally to put Tulsa in front 2-1 early in the second period. The Oilers scored a third goal with the man-advantage when Steven Kaunisto fired a shot from the point that ricocheted off of a Mavericks skate nearly eight minutes into the middle frame. Kansas City battled back to tie it at 3-3 heading into the second intermission after Rocco Carzo scored on a delayed penalty and former Oiler Joey Sides deflected in a power play goal with 20 seconds left.
The Mavericks plowed ahead in the third period with three goals in the first five minutes of the frame within a 1:28 span to lead 6-3 thanks to goals from David Dziurzynski, Jared VanWormer and Willie Raskob. Pleskach took over from there, scoring his third and fourth goals of the game just 17 seconds apart to bring to Oilers back to within a goal. Tulsa outshot Kansas City 42-19, but lost 6-5, dropping its tenth straight game in December.
Tulsa follows a short holiday break with a StoneWolf Casino Cup matchup against the Wichita Thunder at 7:05pm Thursday on the York Plumbing Ice at the BOK Center. The Oilers then will celebrate Military Appreciation Night Friday, when Tulsa hosts the Mavericks again at 7:05pm.
