Pitton Awarded Second ECHL Goaltender Of Week Honor

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League and Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League, announced in conjunction with the ECHL that Bryan Pitton has been named Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Jan. 25-31.

The fourth goaltender overall and first two-time recipient of the award in Thunder history, Pitton, 21, was 1-0-1 last week with 73 saves, one shutout, a 0.48 goals-against-average and.986 save percentage.

He notched the first shutout of his pro career on 34 saves and stopped 14 of 16 shooters in a 1-0 shootout loss to the Victoria Salmon Kings on Jan. 30 at Stockton Arena, the longest shootout in Thunder history. The game also finished five rounds shy of tying the record for longest shootout in ECHL history (21, Birmingham at Hampton Roads, 1992-93).

The previous night, Pitton made 39 saves, three shy of his career-high, in a 7-1 victory over the Victoria Salmon Kings at Stockton Arena.

Selected in the fifth round (133rd overall) by Edmonton in the 2006 National Hockey League Entry Draft and under NHL contract to the Oilers, Pitton has won eight of his last 12 games to improve to 9-9-3 with a 2.85 GAA. He is tied for second in the ECHL with a.921 save percentage in 22 games. He was reassigned to Springfield of the American Hockey League by Edmonton on Feb. 1.

The Mississauga, Ontario native played for Stockton as a rookie in 2008-09 and was 9-19-3 with a goals-against average of 3.39 and a save percentage of.886 in 34 games.

Pitton played three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League where he was 64-46-6 with four shutouts, a goals-against average of 3.22 and a save percentage of.894 in 124 games for Brampton from 2005-08.
