South Carolina Stingrays News Release
This week the South Carolina Stingrays wrapped up an eight-game home stand and kicked off a seven-game road trip against the Wheeling Nailers and the Cincinnati Cyclones for a week record of 0-2-2-0. The Stingrays hosted the Nailers at North Charleston Coliseum for the final time this season on Tuesday suffering a 3-1 loss. Captain Matt Scherer scored the only marker for the Stingrays. The Stingrays opened their seven-game road trip with their first regular season visit to Cincinnati on Friday at U.S. Bank Arena. Forwards Keith Johnson and Scherer added goals, but it was the Cyclones who prevailed 3-2 in overtime. South Carolina quickly headed over to Wheeling for a two-game series with the Nailers at WesBanco Arena starting on Saturday. In game one, the Stingrays erased a two-goal deficit late in the third period, but came up short in overtime 4-3. Forwards Rob Ricci, Jake Hauswirth and defenseman Nate Kiser each lit the lamp for the Stingrays and forward Trent Campbell netted two assists. Sunday marked the final regular season matchup between the Nailers and the Stingrays. The Nailers grabbed the lead late in the first period and never looked back, toppling the Stingrays 5-3. Stingrays forwards Gregg Johnson (2a) and newcomer Scott Bartlett (1g, 1a) each recorded two points in the loss. The loss sends the Stingrays to a season-high five-game winless streak.
