Frederick Keys News Release

The Keys and Hillcats combined for just five hits on Sunday evening as Frederick took the series from Lynchburg with a 1-0 win in the finale. The lone run of the contest was an unearned run that was score in the first inning. 2B Bobby Stevens grounded out to second but RF Steve Bumbry crossed home to put the Keys on top for good. With the win, Frederick improved 39-24 on the season. The Keys magic number to clinch the first half Northern Division crown now is at two after Wilmington's loss on Sunday to Winston-Salem.

LHP Nathan Moreau toed the rubber on Sunday looking for his seventh win of the season. After he tossed a scoreless first, the Keys gave him all the run support he needed. Steve Bumbry led off the home half of the first inning with a single to center field. With Bobby Stevens at the plate, Bumbry swiped second base and then advanced to third on a throwing error by C Cory Brownsten. Facing RHP Zeke Spruill, Stevens grounded out to 2B Phil Gosselin but Bumbry scored on the play. Stevens' 13th RBI of the season turned out to be the lone run in the ballgame.

Moreau was cruising in the game entering the seventh inning. Through six innings, Moreau had allowed one hit while striking out a season-high eight. In the seventh, however, the Lilburn, GA native ran into some trouble. Moreau walked RF Adam Milligan to leadoff the inning and then surrendered a double to DH Joey Terdoslavich. With both men in scoring position, Moreau exited and RHP Clay Schrader entered. Schrader forced 3B Barrett Kleinknect to pop out to 1B Tyler Kolodny for the first out of the inning. Schrader then struck out 1B Geraldo Rodriguez for the second out but he walked L.V. Ware to load the bases. With two down, C Cory Brownsten worked a full count against Schrader. With the runners off on the pitch, Brownsten rolled a grounder to short. Jonathan Schoop fielded and tossed over to first to end the Lynchburg scoring chance.

The Hillcats went down in order in the eighth against Schrader. RHP Sean Gleason closed out the Keys third shutout of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth inning. On the night, Gleason notched his, league-leading, 17th save of the night while Nathan Moreau improved to 7-3 on the year. Moreau's seventh victory tied him with Myrtle Beach's Robbie Ross for the most wins in the Carolina League. Zeke Spruill fell to 4-7 despite not allowing an earned run in the game. Spruill allowed just three hits in his third complete game of the year.

Frederick hits the road to close out the first half of the season. The Keys start up a three-game series in Winston-Salem on Monday night. RHP Ryohei Tanaka (4-0, 1.82) will start game one while Carolina All-Star, RHP Andre Rienzo (1-1, 3.11), gets the nod for the Dash. First pitch from BB&T Ballpark in Winston-Salem, NC is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
