THE HILLCATS: Saturday, the Hillcats beat the Frederick Keys 3-2...Lynchburg's newest starter Aaron Shafer completed seven innings, allowing just one run on four hits en route to his first win of the season...LHP Ryan Buchter record the four-out save after coming in with the bases loaded and two outs in the eighth up 3-1, he walked in a run but retired the next four he faced to finish the game and get his third save...The Hillcats sit in third place in the Carolina League Northern Division, now 10.5 games back of the first place Frederick Keys...

VS. FREDERICK: The Hillcats are 5-4 against the Keys this season...Their win in Frederick back on April 21 snapped a season-high 10-game losing streak...The ‘Cats went on to win three straight against the Keys but fell short of the sweep dropping game four of that series 2-1...The Road team is 6-3 so far in the season series...Last season, Lynchburg lost the season series to Frederick 8-12...Myrtle Beach (2010 Braves Advance-A affiliate) split the series with Frederick 10-10...

THAT JUST HAPPENED: With the bases loaded and nobody out in the top of the fifth last night, the most bizarre play all season took place...Andrelton Simmons hit a groundball to the second baseman, who fielded and flipped to the shortstop, Jonathan Schoop...Schoop dropped the ball allowing Todd Cunningham to slide in safely at second...One run had already scored, when Keenan Wiley rounded third and headed for home after the dropped flip....Schoop threw the ball home catching Wiley in a rundown...Simmons began to head for second but Cunningham was still there...After Wiley was tagged out, third baseman Dale Mollenhauer threw to first, catching Simmons off the bag...Cunningham then broke for third base...Once Simmons was tagged out between first and second, the throw went to third base to nail Cunningham...The throw was in plenty of time but went wide and out of play, so Cunningham was awarded home...Two runs and two outs later, the bases were empty...

DOESN'T THAT BLOW YOUR MIND: The past two nights, a Hillcats player has hit a ball to third base, immediately jumping out of the box in pain, leading one to assume the ball had hit them...Both nights however, the balls have been ruled fair, and the players ruled out...Hillcats' Hitting Coach, Bobby Moore, argued Friday night but kept his cool an would remain in the game...Understandably a bit more upset the second night in a row, Moore pleaded for the umpire to ask for help on the play again and got himself tossed...The very next inning, Keys' Manager, Orlando Gomez was ejected as well, due to arguing an interference call on his shortstop...It was the first time a coach from both sides was tossed in the same game this season...

ALL-STARS ANNOUNCED: The Carolina League announced the roster for the 2011 Mid-season All-Star Team Thursday afternoon...Three Hillcats were selected...Andrelton Simmons will start at shortstop, Joey Terdoslavich will start at third base, and Todd Cunningham will be a reserve outfielder...It will be the first All-Star appearances for each Hillcat...With the three selections, the Hillcats boast the most position players on the roster this season...The Myrtle Beach Pelicans and Wilmington Blue Rocks tied for most selections overall with four each...This year, the Modesto Nuts will host the All-Star game June 21 at John Thurman Field in Modesto, CA...

TOUGH BREAK: C Braeden Schlehuber hit the disabled list again today...While attempting to put down a sacrifice bunt in the seventh inning Thursday night, his right index finger was struck by the pitch...The ball split open the tip of his finger so bad that he would have to exit the game and require stitches...C Shawn McGill ran in from the bullpen to enter the at-bat with a 1-2 count, runners at first and second and the score tied 1-1...He would ground into a 6-4-3 double play, adding insult to injury as they say...

PLAYER OF THE MONTH: INF Joey Terdoslavich was honored as the Carolina League Player of the Month for May as voted by the league's managers...Terdoslavich hit .304 (31-for-102) with four home runs and 20 RBI in 27 games last month...He is second in the league in home runs with 11 on the season...He also racked up 11 doubles in May, and currently has 18 total, tying him for second in the league as well...His average went from .243 to .279 during the month...The honor was the first weekly or monthly award of his career...
