June 12, 2011 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

Frederick, MD - The Hillcats and Keys combined for just five hits Sunday night at Harry Grove Stadium. Hillcats' starter Zeke Spruill tossed his third complete game of the season, most in the Carolina League, but the 'Cats could capitalize on a prime scoring opportunity in the seventh and fell 1-0.

Frederick took the early lead in the bottom of the first. Steve Bumbry singled to center field to lead things off. Bumbry stole second base and advanced third as the throw down went into center field. Bobby Stevens grounded out to second base, scoring Bumbry from third. The next two batters lined out to end the inning, making the run unearned. The Keys led 1-0 after the first inning.

LHP Nathan Moreau gave up at two-out single to Phil Gosselin in the first, but wouldn't allow another hit until the seventh inning. He did hit a batter and walk another in the fifth, but the Hillcats failed to score.

In the seventh, Adam Milligan led off with a walk. Joey Terdoslavich followed with a double down the left field line, putting runners at second and third with nobody out. RHP Clay Schrader relieved Moreau at that point.

Schrader induced a pop-up to first base from Barrett Kleinknecht, struck out Geraldo Rodriguez, and then walked L.V. Ware to load the bases with two outs. Cory Brownsten worked a full count before grounding out to the shortstop to end the inning, stranding the bases loaded.

The Hillcats would go down in order in the eighth and ninth innings a fall 1-0 in the pitchers' duel.

RHP Zeke Spruill (4-7) tossed an eight-inning complete, his third of the season, in the losing effort. He allowed just the one unearned run on three hits. He walked none and struck out. Moreau (7-3) earned the after six plus innings of scoreless work. Sean Gleason sat down the 'Cats in order in the ninth to earn his league leading 17th save of the season.

The Hillcats return this week to finish out the first half. The Wilmington Blue Rocks visit the "Hill City" Monday through Wednesday to play four game in three days beginning with a 7:05 pm start Monday night. As always, it will be a dollar Monday, meaning selected menu items, including hot dogs, hamburgers, candy, and popcorn will be just a dollar. Gates will open at 6:00 pm.
