Pitching Propels Doubledays to Series Win
July 11, 2011 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Auburn Doubledays News Release
Auburn, NY - After an impressive showing by the Jamestown Jammers' bats in the first two games of the three-game series, it was the Doubledays' pitching that was dominant on night three, lifting Auburn to a 3-0 defeat of the Jammers in front of 1,008 fans at Falcon Park.
Manny Rodriguez, Richie Mirowski, and Alex Kreis combined to toss a shutout for Auburn, the third of the year for the Doubledays' pitching staff. Rodriguez, in his fourth start of the year, secured his first career win by tossing five innings of three-hit, no run baseball, striking out four. Mirowski worked three scoreless frames before Kreis came in and notched his first professional save by retiring the Jammers in the ninth.
Offensively, the Doubledays got two of their runs in the fourth inning off of Jamestown starter Matthew Neil. A one-out double by Matt Skole off the wall in left-field turned into the first run of the night two batters later when Angelberth Montilla singled to right, scoring Skole and putting the Doubledays up 1-0.
The second run of the inning came home a batter later on an RBI single to left by Caleb Ramsey, and the Doubledays had the game's first two runs.
In the seventh inning, the Jammers gave Auburn a little help at the plate when Rony Peralta misplayed a bouncer at short of the bat of Justin Miller, allowing Connor Rowe to hustle home from second and increasing Auburn's lead to 3-0, where it would stay the rest of the night.
With the win, the Doubledays now pull within a game of the Jamestown Jammers, who are still alone in first place in the Pinckney division of the NY-Penn League.
The Doubledays will enjoy their first off-day of the summer tomorrow before traveling to Brooklyn on Wednesday night, when they will meet the Cyclones in a 7:05pm tilt at MCU Park. Wednesday night's game will be broadcast live on television on SNY and also on the radio and internet at 89.1 FM in Auburn and at www.auburndoubledays.com.
Auburn returns home on Saturday, July 16th when they meet the Batavia Muckdogs at Falcon Park in a 7:05pm first pitch. Saturday is Syracuse Night at the ballpark, and all fans are invited to wear orange and enjoy post-game fireworks presented by Cayuga County Tobacco Free Coalition.
