Evansville Otters News Release
Todd Dulaney scored on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth inning giving the Rockford RiverHawks a 4-3 victory over the Evansville Otters.
Rockford loaded the bases with one out in the first inning ahead of Chris DiBlasi's single, which gave Rockford a 2-0 lead. Ben Foster settled down to retire 18 of the next 19 batters he faced; the only batter to reach was Gooby Gerlits who homered to make it 3-0 in favor of the RiverHawks.
The Otters were unable to scratch the scoreboard against Rockford starter Joe Barbosa who went six innings allowing four hits and walked two. Dave Dowling came in and struck out the side in the seventh.
The Otters were able to strike against the Rockford bullpen in the eighth. Curt Borland gave up a leadoff single to Rickey Clinton. A wild pitch moved Clinton to second. After a Brian McKenna groundout sent Clinton to third. That groundout was succeeded by three straight singles off the bats of Frank Scott, Denver Stuckey, and Jeff Goldbach to make it 3-2 Rockford. After the RiverHawks brought in their closer Jason Glosser, the Otters executed a double steal to put Stuckey at third and Goldbach at second. The newest Otter Beau Blacken lifted a sacrifice fly into right to tie the game at 3-3.
After Anthony Del Prete struck out the first two batters of the ninth, Todd Dulaney walked. After stealing second, Dulaney moved to third on an infield single by Jerome McCoy. Kyle Pawelczyk dropped a wild pitch to move Dulaney into the plate to give the RiverHawks a 4-3 lead.
Jason Glosser (5-2) picked up the win for Rockford. Del Prete (0-3) took the loss for the Otters.
The series will continue tomorrow with Andre Simpson (3-5) on the mound for Evansville against Derek Roper (5-3) for the RiverHawks.
