Rockford RiverHawks News Release
Evansville, Ind. - The RiverHawks held off a late charge by the Evansville Otters for a 4-3 victory Wednesday night, ending a three-game losing streak.
After Evansville tied the game with three runs in the eighth, Rockford put together a two-out rally in the top of the ninth to score the eventual game-winning run.
Todd Dulaney walked with two out, stole second, and advanced to third on an infield single by Jerome McCoy. Evansville reliever Kyle Pawelczyk then entered the game and threw a wild pitch that allowed to Dulaney to score and give Rockford a 4-3 lead.
Four of the first five Evansville batters in the eighth singled off reliever Curt Borland, bringing the Otters to within a run. Jason Glosser (5-2) came into the game at that point and retired Beau Blacken on a sacrifice fly that knotted the score at 3-3.
In the bottom of the ninth, Glosser struck out Frank Scott to end the game and strand the tying-run at third base and the winning-run at first base.
The Otters' comeback took away a win from Rockford starter Joe Barbosa, who went six scoreless innings in his first start coming off the DL. He was placed on the disabled list because of soreness in his pitching shoulder and had not started since July 3.
Barbosa was staked to an early lead as Chris DiBlasi singled home two runs in the first inning and Gooby Gerlits hit his ninth homer of the season in the fourth.
The RiverHawks return to Marinelli Field Saturday to begin a three-game series against Ohio Valley. The 'Hawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season. All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 - the Hub.
