Richmond Roosters News Release
Richmond, Indiana - Matt Schweitzer became the Frontier League leader in career wins on Tuesday night with an 8-7 win over the Washington Wild Things. Schweitzer picked up his 27th career Frontier League win. Tony Sanguinetti helped Schweitzer out with a six RBI, two-homer performance that gave Richmond the sweep over the Wild Things.
Sanguinetti put the Roosters out on top in the first inning by hitting a three-run bomb to left field that scored Gerald Miller and Nate Gravley, giving Richmond a 3-0 lead. The Wild Things got to Schweitzer in the third, plating four runs on three hits and a walk but Sanguinetti did it again in the bottom of the inning with a two-run homer to right center. The Roosters retook the lead on the homer at 5-4.
Three more runs scored for Richmond in the fifth on RBI hits by Tony Sanguinetti, Dick Daly, Jr. and Kiley Vaughn to extend the Roosters' lead to 8-5. The Wild Things attempted to rally by getting two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth highlighted by a home run to left off the bat of Matt Swope, but Hunter Davis (4) completed a scoreless ninth to get the save and send Richmond to a 8-7 win.
The Roosters will now head to Columbia, Missouri for a three-game series against the Mid-Missouri Mavericks. Danny Bonilla (0-0, 3.60 ERA) will make his second start for Richmond in the series opener on Wednesday night. Richmond will return home to McBride Stadium on Saturday, July 30 to face the River City Rascals for the first time in the 2005 Frontier League Season. Saturday will also be "Fireworks Night" presented by Reid Hospital. The fireworks display will begin shortly after the conclusion of the ballgame.
