Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Bowling Green, KY - In the second game of a three-game series against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and a seven-game homestand overall, the Bowling Green Hot Rods withstood a late surge and beat their Western Division foe by a score of 3-1 on Thursday night at Bowling Green Ballpark.

Fresh off a walkoff victory, the Hot Rods took an early lead against Timber Rattlers starter Jordan Yamamoto (L, 4-5) and never looked back.

After a leadoff single from shortstop Jake Cronenworth, Yamamoto walked outfielder David Olmedo-Barrera and catcher Brett Sullivan to load the bases. Later in the inning, a walk drawn by outfielder Zacrey Law scored Cronenworth to give Bowling Green the first run of the game.

Up 1-0 in the sixth inning, the Hot Rods capped off their final offensive surge with a two-run single by first basemen Kewby Meyer to put the Hot Rods up by three.

For Meyer, he now has six runs batted in over his last two games played and 14 runs batted in during his 11 games played with Bowling Green this year.

Fortunately for the Bowling Green offense, the three runs scored was plenty for starter Blake Bivens (W, 4-2). In six scoreless innings of work, the Rays 2014 4th round pick gave up just one hit and struck out a career-high seven batters en route to a victory.

In eight starts with the Hot Rods this year, Bivens has thrown five or more innings in each of the outings and has thrown six or more innings in each of his last four games started.

To secure the win for Bivens and the Hot Rods, righty Tim Ingram was tabbed with the only earned run in 2.2 innings of work (struck out four) and Tyler Brashears secured his third save of the year by getting Timber Rattlers catcher Max McDowell to fly out with the bases-loaded in the ninth inning to end the game.

Offensively, a single from designated hitter Brandon Lowe in the fourth inning extended his hit streak to 15 games. The hit streak matches David Rodriguez for the longest of any Hot Rods player this season.

With the win, the Hot Rods have won three straight games and are a second-half high two games over .500 (11-9). Bowling Green has also matched their season-high mark of being seven games over .500 (48-41) overall.

They are now 10-4 against the Western Division this year and are 14-6 all-time against Wisconsin.

Bowling Green will continue with a seven-game homestand at Bowling Green Ballpark with the finale of a three-game series against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Friday. The Hot Rods will send Genesis Cabrera to the bump while the Timber Rattlers will counter with Jake Drossner.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:35.
