Great Lakes Loons News Release

BURLINGTON, Iowa - Right-handed reliever Angel German allowed a three-run home run to lefty Jared Walsh in the bottom of the eighth inning and the Burlington Bees exploited the Loons bullpen in a 7-6 come-from-behind victory on Thursday night at Community Field.

German (L, 0-1) also walked three batters in his lone inning of work, which led to his first blown save of the season. The Loons bullpen has surrendered 10 runs in eight innings against Burlington.

Walsh's home run capped a four-hit night for the Angels 39th-round selection in 2015. The blast was his first of the season in 260 at-bats.

The Loons built a 5-1 lead by the seventh-inning stretch, thanks in part to six Burlington errors over a three-inning span early in the ballgame. The Bees made two blunders in three consecutive innings, including a throwing error to third base in the fourth by former Great Lakes Loons catcher, Webster Rivas. Dodgers 2016 draftee Saige Jenco scored from third on the play to give the Loons a 3-1 lead. Jenco recorded two hits, two runs, two stolen bases and a walk in his second career game with the Loons.

In the seventh, right-handed hitter Omar Estevez extended his hit streak to 11 straight with a two-run blast against Burlington righty reliever, Eric Karch.

The bullpen began to falter in the bottom of the seventh when the Bees placed six straight men on base and whittled a four-run deficit down to one. Rivas, the former Loon, and righty Michael Hermosillo each drove in runs against right-hander, Ivan Vieitez.

Right-hander Logan Landon provided the Loons an insurance run in the top of the eighth inning on an RBI single to make the score 6-4. Landon, the Dodgers 10th-round draft choice in 2015, registered his first three-hit game of the season and fifth of this career. He also drove in two runs.

The bullpen could not deliver a win for right-handed starter Imani Abdullah, who pitched five innings and allowed one run on five hits with no walks and three strikeouts. Abdullah threw 56 pitches and 34 strikes as he improved his strikeout-to-walk ratio to 13 (39 strikeouts and three walks over 45 innings).

The Loons try and avoid a sweep by the Bees Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. EDT. Pregame coverage starts at 7 p.m. on ESPN 100.9-FM. The Great Lakes Loons, hosts of the 2017 Midwest League All-Star Game, have been a Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers since the team's inception in 2007 and are in their 10th season.
