Asheville Tourists News Release

ASHEVILLE, NC - When all three facets of a baseball game come together it sure looks pretty. On Monday night the Asheville Tourists pitched with a purpose, swung the bats well, and defended without committing any errors. The combination resulted in an impressive 9-3 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds.

The Pitching: Right-hander Trey Killian entered the ballgame on a streak of 12 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run, both home wins. Killian stretched that streak further with six shutout innings against the Shorebirds. Trey came back out to start the seventh but surrendered two quick hits. Both of those runners later scored for the Shorebirds so Killian's streak came to an end at 18 innings. However, the former Arkansas Razorback notched his third win in his last three starts.

The Hitting: Two nights after Asheville set season-highs in hits and runs, the bats showed up once again. The Tourists pounded out 15 hits and scored nine runs against a quality Delmarva pitching staff. Asheville was led by Mylz Jones who went 4-for-5 including a solo Home Run. Brian Mundell finished 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI. Yonathan Daza added three hits and two RBI and Josh Fuentes added a Home Run as part of his multi-hit night. The Tourists scored at least one run in all but two innings in which they batted.

The Defense: Asheville did not commit a single error in the game. The players made all of the routine plays and a handful of spectacular ones. Fuentes made a barehanded pick at third and a sidearm throw to record an early out; Mundell had a diving stop at first to end the sixth inning; and Chris Rabago picked up another caught stealing from behind the plate.

When the Tourists play like they did on Monday they are tough to beat. The good news is that Asheville is beginning to put more and more games together like this one. Their seven-game homestand wraps up on Tuesday morning with an Education Day. The first pitch will be at 11:05am.
