Greenville Drive News Release

Greenville, SC - The Greenville Drive fell behind early on Monday night and squandered chances late to get back in the game, as the Columbia Fireflies came away with a 6-4 win at Fluor Field to take a 2-1 lead in the series.

The Fireflies (17-14) plated five runs over the first three innings against Marc Brakeman (1-2) and never gave up the lead. A Milton Ramos double and a Tyler Moore sacrifice fly in the second made the score 2-0, and a two-out double by Dash Winningham in the third plated two more. J.C. Rodriguez added an RBI single in the fourth to push the lead to 5-0.

After consecutive hits by Mitchell Gunsolus and Tate Matheny in the bottom of the fourth put runners on the corners, the two executed a double steal of home and second to put the Drive (15-15) on the board. Josh Ockimey followed with an RBI double to score Matheny.

The Drive scored twice more in the sixth on an RBI single by Austin Rei and a wild pitch, but Fireflies reliever Tyler Bashlor left the bases loaded by getting a strikeout to end the frame.

Ramos provided Columbia with some insurance in the eighth inning with his second RBI double of the game, and Alex Palsha nailed down his third save with a scoreless ninth.

Chase Ingram (3-2) got the win for Columbia despite being tagged for four runs on four hits and four walks in five innings.

Ockimey reached base in all five plate appearances for Greenville, going 2-2 with three walks.

The series finale between the two teams is set for 2:05 PM on Tuesday afternoon. Right-hander Anderson Espinoza (2-2, 4.00) takes the ball for the Drive, and the Fireflies will start left-hander P.J. Conlon (4-0, 1.50).
