Lexington Legends News Release
D.J. Burt had three hits and three runs batted in, and the Lexington Legends held off a late rally for an 8-5 win over the Greensboro Grasshoppers Monday night in Greensboro.
After each team scored a run in the first, the Legends took the lead for good with a run in the top of the second. Michael Hill led off with a single, and he and Jecksson Flores were both safe on a fielder's choice after Flores grounded to second. Tanner Stanley's sacrifice bunt put the runners at second and third, and a ground out by Cody Jones brought home the tie-breaking run.
Burt's two-run single in the fourth gave the Legends a 4-1 lead. Stone Garrett homered for Greensboro in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to two, but the Legends answered with three runs in the sixth. With two outs and no one on base, Stanley and Jones drew walks. Burt singled to left, scoring Stanley, and Burt and Jones advanced to second and third on the throw in from the outfield. Samir Duenez followed with a single up the middle, and two more runs scored.
The Legends added an unearned run in the top of the seventh before Greensboro rallied in the bottom half. A single by Anfernee Seymour, a run-scoring double by Josh Naylor and a two-run homer by Angel Reyes made the score 8-5, but neither team scored again.
Legends starter Scott Blewett (2-3) got the win. He worked five innings, allowed eight hits and two runs. He walked three batters and struck out four.
Greensboro starter Chuck Weaver (1-4) was the losing pitcher.
The Legends have won two out of three in the series, which concludes with a morning game Tuesday. First pitch is set for 10:45 a.m.
