
Pitching helps Wild Things defeat Rascal 3-2

O'Fallon, Mo. - Strong pitching and a Denny Duron triple in the top of the ninth helped the Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, defeat the River City Rascals 3-2 tonight at T.R. Hughes Ballpark.
Washington got on the board first in the top of the third when Chris Raniere scored on a Michael Parker groundout.
The Rascals tied the game at one in the bottom of the sixth innings. Doug Sanders singled and ended up scoring on an error by Raniere.
Reliever Kevin Hammons pitched out of a two on and nobody out jam in the bottom of the seventh to keep the game tied at one.
The Wild Things grabbed a 3-1 lead in the top of the ninth when Duron tripled in Parker and Mark McGonigle.
River City wouldn't go down quietly. Chad Maddox led off the bottom of the ninth with a double and then scored on a Jorge Gutierrez single to make the score 3-2.
Hammons picked up the win, his second of the season. He went 2.1 innings, giving up no runs on two hits, striking out three. Matt Vieira picked up his first save of the season.
Rosenbaum pitched a solid 5.2 of an inning, giving up one run on three hits. He walked four and struck out five in the no decision.
Rascals starting pitcher, Paul Patterson also had an impressive outing. He went 6.1 innings, giving up one run on three hits. He walked one and struck out three in the no decision. In two innings, reliever Derrick Miramontes gave up one run on two hits in the loss.
The Wild Things continue their road trip tomorrow night. The Wild Things will take on the River City Rascals at 8:05 p.m. Pre-game coverage starts at 7:55 p.m. on WJPA 95.3 FM.
