KALAMAZOO, MICH - The Normal CornBelters, presented by the Illinois Corn Farmers, had a 7-0 lead in the fifth inning, but ended up losing 8-7 to the Kalamazoo Kings Friday night in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
The CornBelters blasted out to the early 7-0 lead thanks to two home runs in the fourth inning, a three-run home run off the bat of designated hitter Mike Garcia and a solo blast from catcher Mike Hughes.
Starting pitcher Brett Lester pitched six innings, giving up three runs, but none of them earned. Kalamazoo came back with two four-run innings, one in the fifth and another in the seventh inning. Normal reliever Chris Bennett pitched 1/3 innings, giving up three hits and four runs, all of which were earned.
The second game of the series will be Saturday at 6:05 PM in Kalamazoo, Mich. Normal will put Tyler Lavigne on the mound to throw against the Kings.
