Great Lakes Loons News Release
CLINTON, IA - Great pitching was on display Sunday afternoon at Alliant Energy Field. Brett Lorin and Bobby Blevins battled in a Midwest League pitchers' duel, but it was Lorin and the Clinton LumberKings notching a 2-1 victory.
Blevins (3-4) recorded his third consecutive solid outing and his second straight quality start. In seven innings, the right-hander from Briarcliff, NY allowed just six hits and two runs (both earned), walking one and striking out six. In his last three starts, Blevins' ERA has dropped from 9.13 to 5.48. He was charged with the loss as Clinton's staff pitched just slightly better.
The L-Kings struck for two second inning runs on an RBI ground out by Luis Nunez and an RBI single by Maximo Mendez. The Loons' lone run of the game came in the fourth on a leadoff home run by Nick Buss, his second long ball of the season.
Lorin (4-1) struck out seven in six innings, allowing three hits and one walk. Stephen Penney and Ruben Flores combined for three shutout relief innings. LumberKings' pitching fanned 12 Loons batters.
The Loons (22-21) and LumberKings (23-20) meet for the final game of their three-game series and the finale of the Loons' 10-game roadtrip Memorial Day afternoon. Justin Miller (2-2, 5.27 ERA) will start for the Loons against right-hander Alfredo Venegas (0-0, 1.80). The game will be carried locally on ESPN 100.9-FM. Game time is 3pm ET from Alliant Energy Field.
