Bees Return Favor and Shut Out Dragons

Burlington, IA (May 24, 2009) - One day after being shut out, the Burlington Bees came back with a 1-0 victory over Dayton Sunday afternoon at Community Field. Nick Francis had two of the Bees' three hits and the team's only RBI while Bryan Casey, Blaine Hardy and James Thompson combined to pitch the shutout.

The Bees put up the only run of the day on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Fernando Garcia and Eric Hosmer both walked. Francis then came to the plate and doubled to score Garcia, which was the only run of the day.

Casey was the starting pitcher for the Bees and was very effective. In 5.2 innings, he allowed just three hits with three strikeouts and five walks. He got the win to move to 3-4 on the season. The five walks are the most walks a Bees pitcher has given up in a game this season.

The bullpen was also very effective for the Bees. Blaine Hardy pitched 2.1 innings allowing three hits for his first hold of the season. James Thompson pitched one inning with one strikeout for his second save of the year.

The Bees had three hits in the game and were outhit by Dayton 6-3. Francis had two of the Bees' hits with David Wod having the other. Dayton pitchers did give up six walks in the game. The Bees turned three double-plays in the game as well.

The Bees conclude the series with Dayton on Monday. Tim Melville is the scheduled starter. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00.
