
Pitching Dazzles Again for Third Straight Win

Springdale, Arkansas - Right-hander Jesse Scholtens spun 5.2 scoreless innings as the Sod Poodles cruised to a 4-0 win in their series opener against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals at Arvest Ballpark on Saturday night.
It was Amarillo's third straight win and the team's sixth shutout victory of the season. The Sod Poodles have allowed one run or less in three straight games. The pitching staff allowed just four hits on Saturday.
Scholtens allowed three hits and struck out five for his fourth victory of the season.
The Sod Poodles took a lead in the second against Northwest Arkansas starter Jackson Kowar. Luis Torrens drew a leadoff walk followed by a booming double to deep centerfield from Kyle Overstreet.
Hudson Potts then stepped in and hit an RBI groundout. Brad Zunica ripped a double to deep right centerfield to bring Overstreet home and give Amarillo a 2-0 lead. Zunica collected two doubles and walked in the game.
Rodrigo Orozco followed with a single to score Zunica and give the Sod Poodles a 3-0 lead.
Torrens padded the lead with a solo homer to left centerfield in the fifth. The catcher's 10th blast of the season made it a 4-0 game.
Kazuhisa Makita recorded the final out of the sixth from Amarillo's bullpen and proceeded to toss 1.1 scoreless frames.
Evan Miller followed with two scoreless innings while striking out two and allowing just one hit to secure Amarillo's shutout victory.
The Sod Poodles and Naturals continue their series on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is at 2:05 p.m. Amarillo sends righty Lake Bachar to the hill while Northwest Arkansas counters with right-hander Brady Singer.

Amarillo has allowed just two runs on 14 hits combined in the last three nights. The team has received stellar starting pitching in the stretch: Kyle Lloyd went seven scoreless innings on Thursday; MacKenzie Gore went 5.1 scoreless innings on Friday; and Jesse Scholtens went 5.2 scoreless innings in Saturday's win.
