SPRINGFIELD, MO - Johan Oviedo struck out a career-best 11 and Brian O'Keefe belted a seventh inning home run to lift the Cardinals to a 3-1 victory in Saturday's series opener before 5,894 fans at Hammons Field.

The result snaps Corpus Christi's win streak at three games.

Yohan Ramirez received a no-decision despite hurling six innings of one-hit ball. The only marker against him came on a wild pitch in the fifth.

Ramirez, who retired the first 13 in order, owns a 1.61 ERA in five July assignments. He has struck out 30 against seven hits in 22 1/3 frames this month.

The lone Hooks run came on a no-doubt blast to left field by Lorenzo Quintana in the second. Quintana has gone deep in back-to-back games, while mustering six homers and 20 RBIs in his last 14.

Oviedo permitted just four singles after the Quintana home run. Merandy Gonzalez and Bryan Dobzanski teamed for two perfect innings of relief.

O'Keefe's clout in the seventh broke a 1-1 tie and marked the first Double-A run scored against Nick Hernandez this season. Hernandez was making his seventh appearance for the Hooks.

The Cards, who notched just three hits on the night, added an insurance run in the eighth opposite Carlos Sanabria.

Chad Donato takes the ball for the Hooks Sunday night. The Cypress, Texas native will face Alex FaGalde in a 6:10 start at Hammons Field.
