Brockton Rox News Release

Atlantic City, NJ (August 18, 2008) - RHP Rory Shortell held the Brockton Rox to one run on one hit over six innings and SS Anthony Granato hit two home runs on Tuesday night in Atlantic City as the Surf knocked off the Rox 4-2 in the opener of a three-game series.

Shortell's victory was solidified by the Atlantic City bullpen which held the Rox to an additional run on three hits over the last three innings. Granato's two home runs were both solo shots off of Rox starter RHP Santo Hernandez who also allowed two additional runs on wild pitches.

Hernandez kept his new team in the game and settled in after allowing a home run and a double to the first two batters he faced. It was the Rox offense which had its hands full all night.

The two through six hitters in the Rox lineup combined to go 0-18 as the offensive effort was spear-headed by CF Josh Womack who was 2-2 with a double, two walks, three stolen bases, a run scored, and an RBI. 2B Melvin Falu and RF Eugene Julien each had base hits in the game for the Rox as well.

The Surf played most of the game with only eight regular position players and pitcher RHP Derek Barrows playing first base. CF Josh Burrus, DH Clyde Williams, 1B Eddie Kim, and Surf Manager Cecil Fielder were all ejected after the conclusion of the first inning.

The two teams continued the three-game set on Wednesday night at Bernie Robbins Stadium when RHP Wayne Lundgren (8-3, 3.44 ERA) faces Atlantic City's RHP JC Huguet (8-6, 5.11 ERA).
