
Sussex pulls to within half game with win

AUGUSTA, N.J. - *Craig Snipp threw seven scoreless innings, and the Sussex offense erupted for 11 hits as the Skyhawks cruised to a 10-2 victory over first place Quebec on Tuesday night at Skylands Park. With the win, the Skyhawks are now just one half game behind Le Capitales in the second half standings.
Snipp scattered four hits while walking two and striking out four in his seven innings of work. Orlando Trias was saddled with the loss for Quebec.
Sussex broke open scoreless game in the bottom of the fifth when Jay Yaconetti walked and eventually scored on a wild pitch to give the Skyhawks a 1-0 lead. Jorge Moreno then plated Ron Perodin with a single to make it a 2-0 game. Sussex added another run in the sixth when a Yaconetti single drove in Alex Frazier to give the Skyhawks a 3-0 lead. The Skyhawks exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the seventh, highlighted by a Matt Weston three run home run.
The teams return to action at Skylands Park on Wednesday at 7 p.m. for the second game of the crucial three game series. The final fireworks display of the season will be after Thursday's game, which will begin at 6:35 p.m.
