Rapidz begin homestand with loss

(OTTAWA, ON) Tuesday, August 19, 2008 - The Rapidz opened their three-game homestand against the Nashua Pride with a 10-5 loss in front of 1,967 fans at Rapidz Stadium.

The Rapidz stormed into the first inning scoring five runs to take an early 5-0 lead. The Rapidz went through their entire lineup and collected four hits, including a two-run single by Jabe Bergeron and a two-run double by Jake Daubert. Nate Hall added a double to score Daubert to complete the scoring.

The Pride started their comeback in the top of the fourth scoring twice on a single by Ismael Castro. The visitors took a 7-5 lead in the following inning when Ervin Alcantara singled to score Sandy Almonte and with the bases loaded Bryan Duplissie hit a grandslam for his 16th homerun of the season.

Nashua added to its lead with another big inning in the seventh. Argenis Tavarez produced a run with a single and Castro doubled to bring Duplissie and Mike Torres home to give his team a 10-5 lead.

Adam Hawes (4-11) suffered the loss allowing nine runs (all earned) on 10 hits and two walks in 6.2 innings on the mound while recording four strike outs. His opponent, Jason Paul (4-4) survived a long first inning to earn the win. In 5.0 innings of work the righty allowed eight hits, three walks and struck out two batters. The five runs (all earned) he allowed were all scored in the first inning.

The two teams are meeting again on Wednesday night, August 20 at 7:05pm. Tanner Watson (3-6, 5.15 ERA) will start for the Rapidz, facing Hideki Nagasaka (7-5, 5.13 ERA).
