
Pitcher Poveda Joins LumberKings

Clinton, IA -- Pitcher Omar Poveda has joined the Clinton LumberKings 25-man roster after being recalled from the disabled list. Poveda, a 19-year-old right-hander from Turmero, Venezuela pitched with the Arizona Rangers last year. He went 2-6 with a 5.71 ERA in 14 games, nine of them starts. He struck out 56 batters while walking just 12. Poveda was originally signed as a non-drafted free-agent on July 20th, 2004.
To make room for Poveda, the Rangers moved reliever Cain Byrd down to the Arizona Rangers. Byrd was 0-0 with a 8.10 ERA in two outings. He locked down a save in his first outing at Burlington on April 8th, but allowed three earned runs in 2.1 innings his next time out against the Quad Cities on April 11th.
