Portland Pirates News Release

Portland, ME - The Portland Pirates used the force to take down the Providence Bruins in overtime at the Cross Insurance Arena on Saturday night as Rob Schremp scored in the game's final second to give the Pirates the 3-2 victory.

It was ex-Providence Bruin Rob Flick who put the Pirates on the board first, converting on a Malcom Subban rebound 6:45 into the first period. Wade Megan and Tony Turgeon assisted on Flick's third goal of the season.

Austin Czarnik scored the first of his two goals to tie the game at 4:51 into the second period, breaking down the left wing and scoring off an assist from Brandon DeFazio.

Portland retook the lead when Schremp notched his first goal of the night and 10th of the season, slapping home a power play goal at 13:28 of the second from MacKenzie Weegar and Kyle Rau.

Czarnik tied the game again at 12:55 of the third period, sneaking a short side shot from the left circle past Portland goalie Mike McKenna. Ben Youds and Linus Arnesson picked up the assists on Czarnik's fifth of the season.

Schremp scored the game winner with only 0.2 seconds left when he slapped a shot from the left circle through Subban's legs. Weegar and McKenna got the assists on the play.

McKenna made 22 saves in the winning effort bringing the Gorham Savings Bank Saves for Charity total to $2,720 so far this season. The win improves Portland to 11-11-1-0 on the year, while Providence saw their five-game winning streak snapped, dropping to 9-10-5-1.

The Pirates Star Wars(tm) Stormtrooper jerseys worn during tonight's game will be auctioned off to benefit Special Olympics Maine, starting next week. Watch for announcements from the Pirates early next week.

The Pirates finish of their four-game home stand on Wednesday night, when they host the Springfield Falcons at 7:00 p.m. It's Dollar Hot Dog Night! All hot dogs from the Cross Insurance Arena concession stands are just $1 all night! Call 207-PIRATES for tickets.
