Pirates & Marauders Launch Annual Community Commitment Week

BRADENTON, FL - The Pittsburgh Pirates and Bradenton Marauders will host the team's annual Community Commitment Week in Bradenton, Florida beginning today. Pirates Community Commitment Week will kick off on Monday, December 5th with the Dominican Republic Clothing Drive and run through Friday, December 9th. The clothing drive will continue at Pirate City until Friday, December 30th. All clothing donations will be given to the Madre Laura Education Center in the Dominican Republic. The Madre Laura Education Center is a partner of Pirates Charities, the philanthropic arm of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

All clothing items will be gladly accepted and put to use, however, the demand is high for children's summer clothing and children's tennis shoes.

All Manatee and Sarasota County residents are encouraged to take part in the clothing drive to help those in need. A donation site will be located in the main lobby of Pirate City, 1701 27th Street East, Bradenton, FL 34208, and will be open between 8:30AM-6:00PM Monday through Friday (excluding December 23rd). Items can also be dropped off at the Reels at McKechnie Event on Friday, December 16th at 1611 9th Street West, Bradenton beginning at 5:00PM until the end of the free movie showing.

In conjunction with the clothing drive, players and staff members from the Pirates' Major League and Minor League teams will help make the holidays brighter at area charities and civic organizations during a series of public appearances while the players are in town for a conditioning camp during Community Commitment Week. Event times and locations are listed below.

Tuesday, December 6th - 8:30-11:00AM: Pirates' personnel will assist the Girl Scouts in painting the Girl Scouts Little House on 1801 17th Avenue West, Bradenton.

Wednesday, December 7th - 7:00-8:30PM: the Pirates will host a private, fun-filled Holiday Party for Bradenton RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) and Junior RBI Baseball. The event will take place at the Pirate City Dining Hall. There will be holiday-themed activities, food and drinks along with special appearances by Pirates players and Marty the Marauder. Each youth will receive a special gift courtesy of the Pirates.

Thursday, December 8th - 12:00-2:00PM: Pirates personnel will wrap presents at PACE Center for Girls at 3508 26th Street West, Bradenton.

Friday, December 9th - 6:00-9:00 PM: Pirates players will help raise funds by selling Christmas trees and signing autographs at the Boys & Girls Club Tree Lot on the 3900 block of Manatee Avenue, Bradenton.
