Three third period goals vaulted the Lake Erie Monsters (11-11-1-1) to a 3-1 comeback win over the Charlotte Checkers (15-8-1-1) on Monday. With Lake Erie trailing 1-0 to start the third, Tyson Barrie tallied a goal and a pair of assists in the final frame to help the Monsters win and once again reach the .500 plateau. The win also pushes the Monsters over the Rochester Americans in the North Division standings; the Monsters are now in second place.

Jerome Samson opened the scoring when he received a pass back-door from Chris Durno at 15:57 of the first period, and fired the puck across the goal line before Monsters goalie Trevor Cann could slide across to make the save.

The Checkers held their 1-0 lead into the third period before Ryan Stoa tied the game at the 2:17 mark. Brad Malone carried the puck on the left wing side and slid a pass to the front of the net. Stoa had his stick on the ice and redirected the puck past Checkers goalie Justin Peters for his fifth goal of the season. Barrie also assisted on the goal.

Greg Mauldin scored on a one-timer from the top of the left circle with the Monsters on the power play at 16:09 of the third period to give Lake Erie a 2-1 lead. Barrie found Mauldin open and dished the pass to help Mauldin score his sixth goal of the year.

Barrie added an empty-net tally from his own blue line at the 19:27 mark of the third to give the Monsters the 3-1 win. Stoa and Luke Walker assisted on Barrie's third of the season.

Cann (6-9-0) stopped 32 of 33 shots in net for the Monsters. Peters (6-4-1) allowed two goals on 36 shots against for the Checkers, who lead the Midwest Division.

The Monsters are back in action Friday and Saturday night for a pair of games in British Columbia against the Abbotsford Heat. The puck drops at 10:00 PM Eastern both nights, and all the action can be heard on ESPN 850 WKNR.
