Pippins Walk To 6-3 Victory Against Gems

Yakima Valley Pippins News Release
YAKIMA, Wash. - The Yakima Valley Pippins won their third straight game Friday night, knocking off the Klamath Falls Gems by a final of 6-3 in front of 1,158 fans at County Stadium.
After Klamath Falls (3-10) scored a run in the top of the 1st against Pippins starter Brandon Williams, Yakima Valley (8-7 overall, 5-5 West Coast League) took advantage of the wild arm of Michael Silva in the bottom of the 1st. After retiring the first hitter he faced, Silva walked seven of the next eight batters (hitting the other one with a pitch) to bring in 4 runs and build a 4-1 lead without surrendering a hit.
"Coach (Marcus McKimmy) preaches that it's good to get momentum early, and we got a little help from the pitcher in the first inning," said Mitch Skaggs, who went 2-3 in Friday's ballgame. "That (inning) just got us going and set the tempo for the entire game."
JC Snyder's two-run single in the 4th extended the lead to 6-1. That was enough of a cushion for Williams, who went 7 innings and scattered 7 hits with 3 runs (1 earned) to pick up his second win of the summer, both against the Gems. He gave up an unearned run in both the 5th and the 6th to close the gap to 6-3, but Williams and the three relievers that followed closed out the Gems to hold on to the victory.
The Pippins go for both their fourth straight win and their third straight series win Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. in the middle game of the series with the Gems.
