WCL Bend Elks

Elks Take Second Straight Road Win

June 21, 2014 - West Coast League (WCL)
Bend Elks News Release

The Bend Elks took the second game of the three game series against the Bellingham Bells Saturday night by the score of 3-0. Two runs in the first inning is all it took for the Elks. Grant Newton's single followed by Trevor Allen's walk, led to two runs being scored after Bells starting pitcher and loser, Zach Johnson, threw a wild pitch allowing both Elks runners to score. Trevor Allen added an insurance run in the 6th with a solo home run. Elks starting pitcher Patrick McGuff kept the Bells batters stymied at the plate, giving up only one hit in six complete innings. McGuff struck out 7 and only walked only one Bellingham batter collecting his first win of the season. The Bells managed to load the bases in the bottom of the 9th with one out with Louis Cohen on the mound, until Kevin Sheets came in and got the final out by inducing a game ending double play. Sheets recorded his first save of the season. The Elks will go for the sweep of the Bells Sunday afternoon at Joe Martin Filed. All the action can be heard at bendelks.com, with the first pitch scheduled at 3:05 PM.
