Morehead City Marlins News Release
Morehead City, N.C. - The Morehead City Marlins will hold a Pink Jersey Auction this Friday, in cooperation with Carteret General Hospital Foundation. The pink uniforms will be worn to promote breast cancer awareness, though the proceeds from the auction will benefit the Crystal Coast Cancer Center, which focuses on all types of cancer.
Upon its completion, the Crystal Coast Cancer Center will house both the Raab Oncology Clinic and the Coleman Radiation Clinic, as well as the various specialty services for a wide range of cancers and their treatments. The building is to be conveniently placed at the corner of Bridges Street and Penny Lane in Morehead City.
Currently, Carteret General Hospital is preparing to complete the Certificate of Need (CON) for submission to the state of North Carolina.Hospitals are required to fulfill this requirement for proposed acquisitions, expansions, or creations of facilities to be allowed.A more specific timeframe concerning the physical construction of the Center will be determined once the CON process has been completed.
"Despite remarkable advances in treatments, cancer continues to impact the lives of nearly all of us from Cedar Island to Cedar Point and beyond," says Director of Marketing and Public Relations for Carteret General, Michelle Lee."We are pleased that the Marlins have partnered with us to help fight cancer here in Carteret County. It is only through these combined community efforts and support that we will be able to build a new cancer center."
The Marlins are playing a doubleheader on Friday against the Fayetteville SwampDogs. During the games, silent auctions will be held for each Marlins player's jersey. Once the Marlins are done competing, winners will be announced and the highest bidders will receive signed jerseys right off of the backs of the Marlins. Gates will open at 5 o'clock for the 6:05 p.m. start of the doubleheader's first game.
