CPL Players of the Week for Week Six Named

The Coastal Plain League announced Tuesday that Edenton ‚¬â„¢s Nathan Burns was named the Rawlings Hitter of the Week, while the Co-Pitchers of the Week honors went to Outer Banks ‚¬â„¢ Richard Hawkins and Florence ‚¬â„¢s Michael Guinane for week six of action (July 5-July 11).

Burns, a sophomore from Florida International, batted .519 on the week for the Steamers. His 14 hits was tied for the most in the league, and of those 14 hits, four were doubles, one a triple, and two were home runs. Burns also led the league with 26 total bases, while adding a .963 slugging percentage and a .556 on-base percentage.

On the mound, Hawkins, a junior from Oklahoma City, started two games for the Daredevils, earning a 2-0 record with a perfect 0.00 ERA. Furthermore, he had a complete game shutout at Wilson on July 11. Overall, the 5-11, 180-pound left-hander pitched 16 innings, surrendering two runs - unearned - on 11 hits, while walking four and striking out five.

In Florence, Guinane went 1-0 with a perfect 0.00 ERA after eight innings of work for the RedWolves. The 6-4, 210-pound sophomore lefty from Georgia College and State University scattered four hits, giving up just one run - unearned - while walking none and striking out eight. Furthermore, opposing batters just his .138 against Guinane.
