Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release

WILMINGTON, N.C. - Eric Grabe went 2-for-4 to tie the CPL record for career hits as the Fayetteville SwampDogs defeated the Wilmington Sharks, 3-1, on Tuesday night at Buck Hardee Field.

Grabe's single in the seventh inning off of Emilio Pagan gives him 158 in his third season with the SwampDogs, tying him with Will Skinner of Forest City for the most all-time hits in CPL history. He is also tied with Konstantine Diamaduros of Forest City, who was 1-for-5 on Tuesday and now also has 158 career hits at press time.

Fayetteville (25-13, 8-2) captured their second straight win over Wilmington (18-18, 5-3) to move two games ahead of the Sharks for first place in the CPL South second half standings. The SwampDogs and Sharks still meet three more times this season.

Cory Kent (5-0) pitched 2.2 scoreless innings of relief to earn the victory in relief of starter Sean Tracy, who was making his SwampDogs debut. Tracy pitched 4.1 innings, allowing just two hits and one run while walking five and striking out four.

Cody Davis pitched the final two innings to earn his CPL-leading 11th save of the season.

Jake Mayers (2-1), an offensive hero from Monday night in Fayetteville, started on the mound for the Sharks and took the loss, his first of the year.

The SwampDogs offense was held mostly in check, scoring on a sacrifice fly, wild pitch, and a Sharks error while managing only six hits. But the tandem of Kent and Davis once again stifled opposing batters in the late innings to preserve the victory.

The SwampDogs continue their four-game road swing tomorrow night with their first meeting of the second half of the season with the Florence RedWolves. First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m. The SwampDogs return home to J.P. Riddle Stadium on Saturday night against Wilmington for their annual StriKing Out Cancer Night. Gates open at 6 p.m., with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m.
