Stockton Ports News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. - Sandber Pimentel had the first multi-home run game of his career on Monday night at Banner Island Ballpark. It wasn't enough for the Stockton Ports to extend their win streak. The San Jose Giants scored three unearned runs off Ports starter Casey Meisner (0-3) in the top of the second inning and those runs propelled them to a 5-2 win over Stockton to snap the Ports' three-game win streak. Stockton still has yet to beat San Jose in four tries this season.

Chris Shaw led off the second for San Jose and hit a deep fly ball to the right field wall. Ports right fielder Seth Brown backed up all the way to the fence and got camped underneath the ball but missed it on its way down, an error that allowed Shaw to reach third base. Two batters later, Steven Duggar walked and Jose Vizcaino, Jr. followed with an RBI single to center to give the Giants a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, with two outs, Brandon Bednar tripled to center field to score both Duggar and Vizcaino and make it a 3-0 ballgame.

The three runs in the second were the only runs allowed by Meisner in an otherwise solid performance. The right-hander suffered the loss after allowing the three unearned runs on four this while striking out a season-high seven.

Meanwhile, Giants starter Mark Reyes (2-0) found his groove early. Reyes retired the first 12 batters he faced. After allowing a leadoff walk in the fifth, Reyes induced a double-play off the bat of Mikey White. After back-to-back singles by Brown and John Nogowski, Stockton's first hits of the night, Reyes struck out Iolana Akau to end the inning.

Pimentel led off the sixth with his first home run of the season out to right field to make it a 3-1 score. Reyes, though, would go on to retire the next six batters in a row to complete his outing. The left-hander earned the victory, going seven innings and allowing one run on three hits while striking out five.

San Jose grabbed a pair of insurance runs in the eighth off Ports reliever Kyle Finnegan. With two outs, Finnegan walked C.J Hinojosa and then gave up a two-run blast to Shaw that gave the Giants a 5-1 cushion.

Reyes Moronta came on in relief for San Jose in the eighth and gave up another home run to Pimentel, this time with two outs in the eighth to make it a 5-2 game. It was the only run allowed by Moronta in his lone inning of work.

Rodolfo Martinez (SV, 6) gave up a leadoff single to Jose Brizuela in the ninth but set the next three batters down in order to pick up his sixth save of the season.

Athletics infielder Danny Valencia, who played with Stockton on a Major League rehab assignment, played seven innings at third base and went 0-for-3 at the plate.

The Ports and Giants play the second game of their four-game set on Tuesday morning at Banner Island Ballpark. Left-hander Zack Erwin (0-1, 1.27 ERA) makes the start for Stockton, opposed by San Jose right-hander Jason Forjet (2-1, 5.02 ERA). First pitch is set for 11:10 a.m. PDT.
