Sanford Mainers News Release

PLYMOUTH, M.A. - Three home runs and an excellent pitching performance from Andrew Mitchell (Auburn) for the Plymouth Pilgrims (5-7) did in the Sanford Mainers (6-6) Wednesday night.

Mitchell stunned the Mainers bats in their lone appearance at Forges Field this summer, going eight innings as he allowed just four hits and a run with no walks and three strikeouts. Mitchell set down 14 in row before exiting for Cole Kragel (Virginia Tech) who would make the streak 17 when he shut down Sanford in the 9th.

As if Plymouth's starting pitching wasn't enough to contend with in the midst of the Miles Standish Forrest, the Pilgrims also slugged their way past the Mainers. Trailing 1-0 in the 3rd, Ryan Brown kicked off the Pilgrims scoring with a solo home run off of Josh Normandeau (Maine Orono).

Plymouth tacked on two more in the 4th on Jesse Baker's (Texas San Antonio) two run home run to make it 3-1 Pilgrims, as Baker's shot ultimately proved to be the difference maker. Liam O'Regan (Elon) would hit another home run in the 6th, though the Pilgrims would score again in the 8th, as their offense pounded the Mainers bullpen.

Sanford picked up their lone run of the ballgame in the top of the 2nd when Todd Czinege (Villanova) hit the first pitch of the inning over the left-center field fence to make it 1-0 at the time.

The Mainers will have tomorrow off, but return to action June 24 when the Danbury Westerners travel to Goodall Park for their only visit on the 2016 season. First pitch is 6:30 PM, with pregame coverage beginning on the NECBL Broadcast Network at 6:15 PM.
