Keene Swamp Bats News Release
KEENE - The SwampBats (7-4) batters were unable to solve New Bedford's (3-7) Samuel Nepiarsky (University of Connecticut) as he went nine innings, allowed one earned run on six hits, and struck out six in the Bay Sox 3-1 victory.
It is no mystery why the University of Connecticut baseball program was so successful this season when they have pitchers like Nepiarsky on their staff. Nepiarsky threw the New Collegiate Baseball League's (NECBL) first complete game of the season. Very few SwampBats batters were able to make solid contact against Nepiarsky as his change-up was fantastic throughout the entire game.
The SwampBats loss tonight is their third in a row and a lack of timely hitting along solid contact doomed them at the plate.
Down 1-0 in the fourth inning, Parker Sniatynski (St. Louis U) led things off with a single and stole second during the next at bat. Jordan Howard (Lee U) in his at bat advanced Sniatynski to third base with grounder to the right side of the infield. The heart of the SwampBats lineup in Jack Morock (Iowa Western CC) and Brandt Stallings (Georgia Tech) came up with a runner on third and just one out. Morock popped up to the shortstop, Stallings popped up to the second basemen, and Sniatynski was stranded at third.
Right-hander Tommy Doyle (Virginia) made his second start of the season and went 6.1 innings pitched, gave up three earned runs on five hits, and struck out six.
Doyle was cruising through the first three innings, allowing only one hit and struck out three.
In the fourth, things got a little dicey. During the inning he faced seven batters, gave up two singles, one double, and walked one. Luckily he was able to escape only allowing one earned in that inning. The Bay Sox would get two more off of Doyle in the seventh inning.
The lone bright spot for the 'Bats was in ninth inning when Howard launched his fifth home run of the year over the scoreboard in right-center field. That would be all the offense the SwampBats would get.
The SwampBats look to end their three-game losing streak tomorrow at Alumni Field when they take on the Vermont Mountaineers (2-8). First pitch is at 6:30 p.m.
The game can heard live on the NECBL Broadcast Network and FM 104.1, AM 1220 ESPN Keene.
