North Adams SteepleCats News Release
The North Adams SteepleCats fell to the Plymouth Pilgrims 10-8 Tuesday Night in a game that saw many high powered offenses, many great plays, and interesting bounces of the ball. With the loss, the 'Cats fell to 6-5 on the season.
"There were a lot of things out of our control that happened, things that you cannot do anything about," said Head Coach Mike Armstrong. "No matter how frustrating they are you have to keep playing through them."
The 'Cats took an early 2-0 lead after two innings. The Pilgrims then woke up offensively in the third. Ryan Brown led off the inning with a single. He then advanced to third on a single by Riley Delgado on a ball that took a big bounce over CJ Price's head at third. He then came into score on the sac fly to get the Pilgrims on the board.
Tied at two in the fourth, the Pilgrims began the inning with three consecutive singles to take the lead. With runners on second and third, Cameron Hanley singled in both runners to make it 5-2. He then advanced to third on a double by Cole Gordon ending the night for 'Cats starter Peter Lannoo. Hanley and Gordon both scored on a double by Jeremy Pena giving the Pilgrims a commanding 7-2 lead.
Lannoo finished the night going three and a third innings. He gave up seven runs off ten hits and struck out two.
The big dagger came in the top of the ninth with the Pilgrims leading 8-6. With runners in scoring position and two outs, 'Cats catcher Kyle Brennan overthrew pitcher Andrew Camiolo following a pitch. The ball went into the outfield allowing both runners to score making it 10-6.
"The ninth inning was frustrating for sure. The fact that the ball gets by that many guys mysteriously," said Coach Armstrong. "Those guys were there backing it up. They were not out of position. We just got to get behind the thing with our body and make sure it does not scoot away from us with the game on the line."
Despite the adversity the 'Cats faced, the team continued to fight hard throughout the game.
"That is the special part about this group is that they want to win as bad as I do," said Coach Armstrong. "They never say quit. Even down four we made it interesting in the ninth. We are never out of the game and our guys know that. That is the strength of this team."
