Sanford Mainers News Release

SANFORD - On the back of an excellent bullpen performance, the Sanford Mainers (6-5) came from behind to defeat the Valley Blue Sox (6-4) in the first meeting of the two clubs this season.

Down 4-1 entering the 7th, Sanford put two men to kick off the inning. C.J. Krowiak (Binghamton) singled and a walk to Shaine Hughes (Monmouth) put men on for Nelson Mompierre (Miami Dade) who promptly doubled in Krowiak to cut the lead to just two runs. Now 4-2, and runners on second and third, Todd Czinge (Villanova) doubled in a pair of runs, tying the game at four. Czinge had three RBIs in the ballgame went 2-for-5 in the game.

All knotted up at four, and with the bases loaded again in the 7th, Chris Gaetano (Monmouth) pinch hit for Michael Young (Massachusetts Lowell), taking a 3-2 pitch for ball four, knocking in the go-ahead and eventual winning run.

To enable the Mainers comeback, the Sanford bullpen had to slam the door on Valley and their bats - so they did. Joseph Orlando (Binghamton), Blaise Whitman (Rhode Island) and Troy Miller (Michigan) all combined for four innings out of the pen and allowed no runs, on no hits, one walk and produced seven strikeouts. Orlando got the win for the Mainers in relief, while Whitman earned the hold and Miller the save.

The Blue Sox offense was volatile in the early stages however. Cam O'Neal (Holy Cross) undid a 1-0 Sanford lead in the 2nd inning when he hit a two-run home run off of Ben Wessel (Rhode Island) to left field.

Valley also grabbed two runs in the 4th on a Kyle Mottice (Cincinnati) RBI double and safety squeeze put down by David Leiderman (Hofstra).

The Mainers have now won three of their last four games, and will travel to Plymouth on Wednesday, June 22. First pitch is at 6:30 PM from Forges Field, with the pregame show set to begin 15 minutes prior. The game broadcast can be found on the NECBL Broadcast Network and The Legends in Sanford, 1220 AM and 102.3 FM.
