Keene Swamp Bats News Release
KEENE, NH- The Keene SwampBats (24-20) wrapped up third place in the NECBL's Northern Division despite a 9-2 loss to the Sanford Mainers (24-18) on Wednesday night at Alumni Field in Keene.
Erick Zecha (2.2 IP, 5 H, 7 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 2 SO) surrendered seven runs (four earned) in the first three innings and the RPI right-hander was dealt the loss for Keene, dropping to 1-2.
Sanford's Carmine Pagano (UNC-Asheville) knocked in four of the seven runs on a pair of two-run singles and all seven runs between the three innings came with two outs.
A dropped popup on the infield in the top of the second helped lead to three runs in the frame for the Mainers.
Sanford's Ryan Twitchell (Rhode Island), who was the winning pitcher in the ballgame, tossed six scoreless innings, giving up four hits and striking out eight.
The SwampBats got solo runs in the bottom of the seventh and the bottom of the eighth to make it a 9-2 game. Connor Longley (Keene State) scored in the bottom of the seventh on a throwing error that allowed Rudy Aguilar (St. John's) to reach. Longley then knocked in his first RBI as a member of the Bats on a double to left center in the bottom of the eighth.
Andrew Houde and Brandon Heath (Keene State) were bright spots out of the SwampBats bullpen, combining to not allow an earned run in 6 1/3 innings to go with five strikeouts.
The SwampBats will play in a one game playoff against the Sanford Mainers at Goodall Park in Maine on Friday August 3rd. First pitch time has yet to be determined. As always, you can listen to that game on FM 104.1 AM 1220 Fox Sports Keene.
