Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Four home runs in lifted the Lehigh Valley IronPigs past the Rochester Red Wings 6-2 Monday at Coca-Cola Park. Trevor Plouffe hit his first home run as an IronPig while Drew Anderson (1-0) earned his first win of the season.
After allowing a run in the top of the first, the Pigs answered quickly against Rochester starter Dietrich Enns (2-5). It took just two batters for the home team to pull ahead. Dean Anna led off with a single before Collin Cowgill hit a line drive home run to left to put the IronPigs up 2-1. Lehigh Valley would add one more in the frame on a RBI single by Danny Ortiz.
That was all the support Anderson needed in just his second start since returning from the DL. Anderson retired seven of eight after the first-inning run and only allowed one more hit over his five innings of work. Anderson struck out five and allowed just three hits while walking three.
Enns came into the game with just one home run allowed on the year and just 15 allowed in his minor league career. The Pigs tagged him for two more in the fourth inning. First, Plouffe went yard to lead off the inning. Two batters later, Nick Rickles found the Pig Pen in left with his third home run of the season.
In the top of the sixth, Rochester got one run back against Jake Thompson, who went two innings in relief. Looking to strike again in the 7th, Thompson got an inning-ending double play with runners at the corners to keep the Pigs' three-run lead intact.
Mitch Walding, back in the starting lineup for the first time in five games, reached base three times. After walking twice and scoring a run, Walding tagged a solo home run to dead center field against reliever Luke Bard in the seventh to push the Pigs' lead to 6-2.
Yacksel Rios tossed two scoreless innings in his first appearance for the Pigs in 2018. The Pigs have now won four-straight overall and eight in a row at home.
The Pigs and Red Wings resume their four-game series tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. It's Agriculture Night at Coca-Cola Park with 3,000 fans 18 and older receiving a Penn State Lehigh Valley IronPigs visor presented by UGI Utilities. Enyel De Los Santos gets the start against former Phillies prospect Trevor May on a Good Shepard Rehabilitation appearance.
