Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
(Pawtucket, RI) The Lehigh Valley IronPigs cashed in on three tenth-inning walks, scored twice and earned a series win with a 4-2 victory over the Pawtucket Red Sox on Sunday afternoon at McCoy Stadium. With the bases loaded and one out in the tenth, Brian Bogusevic hit a ground ball to Pawtucket shortstop Deven Marrero, whose throw home was low, skipped past the catcher Humberto Quintero and allowed the decisive runs to score.
PawSox reliever Pat Light had walked the bases loaded to open the door for the IronPig rally.
Each team had hit a two-run homer in the third inning; the round-trippers were the only offense before the tenth. Pawtucket starter William Cuevas posted a fourth strong start; he was perfect in the first, walked one in the second, and was burned by his second free pass. That walk came in the top of the third; with Logan Moore at first and one out, Chase d'Arnaud launched a two-run homer that pushed the IronPigs ahead, 2-0.
The PawSox (49-80) answered right back in the bottom of the inning. After Jemile Weeks singled to right, Deven Marrero obliterated a home run off of Lehigh starter Severino Gonzalez that sailed out of the ballpark in left field.
From the point forward, Gonzalez allowed only one more hit in his final two innings before he yielded to Chris Leroux. Leroux authored three scoreless frames to keep the game tied.
Dustin McGowan worked around a leadoff walk to Garin Cecchini in the bottom of the tenth to earn his twelfth save.
The PawSox return to McCoy tomorrow for the opener of a series with the Scranton RailRiders at 7:05. Lefthander Edwin Escobar (1-2, 5.51) goes for Pawtucket and will be opposed by Scranton lefty Chris Capuano (1-1, 1.93). Radio coverage will begin on WHJJ and online at 6:50.
Good seats for all three games that remain the homestand are available; call 401-724-7300 or visit the PawSox online at www.pawsox.com to get them now.
